About Bainbridge Island
Bainbridge Island and the Kitsap Peninsula is your destination! Come stay, play and relax on this gem of an island just 35 minutes away from downtown Seattle. Walk from downtown Winslow to the ferry terminal…take the ferry by foot, have a beer or a glass of wine and a bowl of chowder, enjoy the gorgeous views from the many viewing locations on the boat, including outside-upstairs, arrive in Seattle and walk right into downtown Seattle! It’s the coolest thing ever!!
While staying with us at one of our lovely vacation rentals, you can explore Seattle with ease or our Island with ease and excitement, as well.
Local Islanders and visiting guests both enjoy the many amenities to be had here on Bainbridge Island. Enjoy our many fine restaurants such as award winning-Marche, award winning-Hitchcock, Four Swallows, Cafe Nola, and Treehouse Cafe where you can find live music on many a night at Bainbridge’s sweet, old world style Lynwood Center. If you are looking for comfort food, you might go to Streamliner Cafe or the east coast style Madison Cafe on Madison Avenue. You won’t be lacking in places to eat and enjoy delicious meals. There are so many to explore and experience.
Shop at our many lovely shops. You will find fine, fun, interesting clothing, household items, art work at Bainbridge Arts and Crafts and other fine art galleries, candles and lanterns shops, sport shops, a health food and vitamin shop, cycle shops, yarn shop, coffee houses, Town and Country Market, travel stores, and the locals favorite book store, Eagle Harbor Books, where many authors, many of which are the island’s local authors, give readings from their books.
We love gardens here. You’ll see. Please visit the award winning Bloedel Garden. Wing Point Garden is one to not miss either. Bainbridge Gardens, where you can buy plants of all types and sorts, as well as interesting, artistic, thoughtful gifts in the gift shop, is a place to visit. And remember to stop by the New Rose Cafe, located at Bainbridge Gardens, for tea or a latte and a bite to eat.
Or perhaps you’d like to stay in and cook at one of the vacation rental homes? Visit one of our many markets here on the island or go to one of the three weekly farmers’ markets, Saturday, Sunday and the new Wednesday Euro -style, afternoon to early evening market. Shop for fresh ingredients from purple potatoes to wine to berries to locally made goat cheese to locally made fermented kraut. You’ll be able to cook up a fresh gourmet storm with ease.
Are you looking to taste wine and see the island through our wineries eyes? We have so many wineries now, and makes for fun exploration. Eleven Winery and Island Vintner (a collection of island wineries) both have tasting (aka: hang out and drink wine and talk) rooms in downtown Winslow. Definitely two spots you might like to enjoy!
Are you a cyclist? Will you tackle these roads? Toe Jam Hill? Get a map at the downtown chamber and see all the roads and highlighted areas for riding here on Bainbridge Island. You like riding in the rain and chill? Ride with all the Chilly Hilly fans in spring. You won’t be alone! Stay safe on those roads!
Do you prefer to sail, kayak, motor boat, paddle, scuba dive, wind surf, water ski, beach comb…?
You can do it all here on Bainbridge Island! The island has miles and miles of waterfront with many public access points including the two large beaches: Pritchard Park and Fay Bainbridge State Park. Both gorgeous beaches have easy parking and access. And if you prefer to spend your time at a marina, then the downtown Marina District with it’s coffee houses, gelato shop, restaurants and Pubs will be just right for you. It has a gorgeous waterfront walking path for you to enjoy and many people end their stroll at the Harbor Public House (for 21 and over). If you get to sit out on the deck under the big yellow and white stripped umbrella, then you’ll be able to enjoy those over the harbor to downtown Seattle views. When at the Harbor Pub, make sure to also visit the “What’s Happening on Bainbridge” corkboard by the bathrooms to see local concerts and happenings. Doc’s Restaurant and Bar also has a bar area with televisions for sport watching and a family friendly restaurant with outdoor, grass-underfoot, waterfront seating in the summer. If you’d like to just grab some sunshine, Doc’s is a great place to do so, with a drink in hand, out on the grass in a laid back adirondeck chair. Turn left or right and meet a local!
Want to enjoy stand up improv? Live theater? Check out Bainbridge Performing Arts. It’s also in downtown Winslow and has people flocking to it’s shows. Concerts at the amazing Grace Church. Live music and story-telling at Treehouse Cafe and Bar, live music and poetry readings at Pegasus Coffee House and Bar. There are so many places and things to experience and explore here on the island. Let us know if you are looking for a particular experience and we can direct you.
